    This seems to happen with IDL+HDF5 on sgi's. I assume its some
    interaction between IDL and the external HDF5 library, but I don't know.
    IDL with HDF4 works, and I think you can loop in the shell and do (say)
    h5dump 200 times without any problems, but on the SGIs, IDL doesn't want
    to deal with more than 190ish HDF5 files.
