Hi!
I have three questinons regarding flash
Build stamp: Thu Sep 19 12:40:11 2002
IRIX64 oxygen 6.5 IP35
Version: FLASH 2.1.20020605
1) since the arrays UNK, UNKSUM, WORK are static I presume they are allocated
in stack memory, which in our case is only 256MB. If they would be dynamic
they would move into heap were our SGI Origin has 1GB per processor. I would
like to change the memory allocation, since the 256 is very restrictive in
number of total blocks available (we currenly have only 16 processors so
increasing the number of processors to increase the max. number of blocks is
not an option at the moment). Is anybody aware if any flash.par settings or
any coding involved in changing this? I could change the static allocation to
ALLOCATABLE and allocate the array once, but is this all? The message from
the compile with the original Flash code when using "too many" blocks is:
f90-1435 f90: ERROR DBASEINCLUDES, File = tree.fh, Line = 101, Column = 48
The storage size needed for "UNK" exceeds 268,435,455 bytes, the maximum
storage size available.
f90-1435 f90: ERROR DBASEINCLUDES, File = tree.fh, Line = 109, Column = 54
The storage size needed for "UNKSM" exceeds ...
f90-1435 f90: ERROR DBASEINCLUDES, File = workspace.fh, Line = 10, Column =
24
The storage size needed for "WORK" exceeds ...
2) in physicaldata.fh is a section:
! set pre-processor variable to control use of different timesteps on
! different grid blocks
!#define VAR_DT !<<< USER EDIT
in the documentation for paramesh this is detailed, but it seems that I need
to do more to Flash than just uncommenting the define, since it does not
compile. Does anybody have any experience with this?
3) Using IDL5.5 I have some trouble with the visualization of 3d data,
xflash.pro allways seems to crash when executing. It runs fine when I disable
the colorbar and the block display - but these are two quite useful features
;-)
I read earlier in the list that other people have problems with IDL 5.5 as
well. I am not too familiar with idl. I wrote a utility to convert flash hdf4
into dx for open/dx but it is not as nice ... hence I would be interested if
somebody has a working .pro file for IDL5.5 which can handle 3d data.
Many thanks for your time!
