Dear Colleagues,
we are going to apply for a new linux cluster
in our department. Now we try to figure out an
optimized system, as cheep and as powerful
as possible. So what is in your experience the
optimum configuration to run FLASH with and
without self gravity?
We think about a 256 opteron processor cluster. Now the
questions are:
How much memory per processor do we need?
What network do we need? Infiniband/Giganet/Myrinet...
In order to get as many as possible processors we have
to minimize the cost for network, processor-clockspeed,
and memory per node.
Any opinion?
Best wishes
Hubert
PS: We will also run ZEUS-MP, the Pencil Code, Gadget and TRA-MP on
this cluster.
