Turbulent Mixing and BeyondLaunched in 2007 with the support of colleagues, international scientific
community, national and international funding agencies, the program ‘Turbulent
Mixing and Beyond’ is focused
on studies
of non-equilibrium, multi-scale and statistically unsteady turbulent
processes
in natural and artificial systems via the use of advanced theoretical
analysis
methods, rigorous mathematical approaches, cutting-edge experiments,
high
technologies, state-of-the-art numerical simulations, and massive
computations.
Exploration of these processes may have a transformative impact on our
knowledge
of a broad range of physical phenomena, from astrophysical to atomistic
scales,
under high and low energy density conditions, on fundamental principles
of
mathematical modeling of the dynamics of continuous media, and
on technology development in fusion, nano-electronics, aeronautics
and
telecommunications. As of Dec 2010, www.google.com returns about 150,000 results for
‘turbulent mixing and beyond.’
To date TMB
community unites about 800+ researchers from five continents including
scientists from academia, national laboratories, corporations and industry, at
experienced and early stages of their carrier. This newly emerged, essentially
multi-disciplinary and international community demonstrates a strong potential
for innovative research and for advancements in a broad variety of fields in
science, mathematics and technology.
International Conference 'Turbulent Mixing and Beyond' is organized to expose generic problem of Non-Equilibrium Turbulent Processes to a wide scientific community, to promote the development of new ideas in tackling the fundamental aspects of the problem, to assist in application of novel approaches in a broad range of phenomena, where these processes occur, and to have an impact on technology. First International Conference 'Turbulent Mixing and Beyond' was held on 18 – 26 August 2007 at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics. Proceedings of TMB-2007 (120 presenters) can be found in the Book of Abstracts (150 contributions of 300 authors) and Topical Issue T132 of Physica Scripta (2008) (2 editorial and 57 research papers) Second International Conference and Advanced School 'Turbulent Mixing and Beyond' was held on 27 July – 07 August 2008 at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics, and was hosted by the ICTP as regular activity. Proceedings of TMB-2009 (over 180 presenters) can be found in the Book of Abstracts (194 contributions of 385 authors) and in the Topical Issue T142 of Physica Scripta (2010) (3 editorial and 70 research papers The first review issue of the Turbulent Mixing and Beyond phenomena was published in the Theme Issue 1916 of the Philosophical Transactions of Royal Society A, Volume 368 (2010). The second review issue is being in preparation. |
